Estefan, Seymour among Oasis' seven godmothers

November 19, 2009

Three Olympic medalists, three television personalities and an international singing star will serve as the seven godmothers to the Oasis of the Seas when the ship is named Nov. 30 in Fort Lauderdale.

Singer and songwriter Gloria Estefan will become godmother to a second Royal Caribbean ship – she is godmother to the Empress of the Seas.

The other six are Michelle Kwan, the most decorated figure skater in U.S. history; English actress Jane Seymour, a winner of Emmy and Golden Globe awards; swimmer Dara Torres, who competed in five Olympics and won a total of 12 medals in those Games; gymnast Shawn Johnson, winner of a gold and three silver medals at the 2008 Olympics; actress Keshia Knight Pulliam, best-known for her childhood role as Rudy on "The Cosby Show" in the 1980s; and TV personality and model Daisy Fuentes.

Royal Caribbean said each of the seven godmothers was chosen because they personify strength of character and exemplify the spirit of giving.

I just returned yesterday from 2 1/2 days on the Oasis. There are not enough descriptive words in the English language to describe her. She is not a ship - she is a floating resort!!! There are maps, directions, venue happenings, daily compass listings, even restaurant capacity at the time you are looking at this, so you know which restaurants are crowded! And, you have 6 different languages you can get this information. The art work is nothing short of breath taking. You'll be walking along and al

I hope the other cruise lines will take notice that the "seasoned cruisers" will avoid this ship at all costs. Maybe the young families will enjoy this type of vacation.....please no more mega mega ships from any cruise line.............

The whole concept is fascinating, but as a seasoned cruiser I will say I'll avoid it at all cost. I think a sailing "theme park" is just too much stress to call a vacation and cruising is supposed to be relaxing, no lines, no crowds and just lovely days at sea with a few nice stops along the way. Sorry RCL, but you've lost me on this one.
