Quark Expeditions said the Kapitan Khlebnikov, an expedition ship that got stuck in ice during an Antarctica cruise earlier this week, has navigated through pack ice in the Weddell Sea and is now in open water.

The ship is on its way to the port at Ushuaia, Argentina, and is scheduled to arrive there on Nov. 22, six days later than scheduled.

Quark Expeditions said all 101 passengers, 23 staff and 60 crew are safe.

After arrival, the ship will take on fresh supplies and new passengers for a cruise departing later that day.

"I would like to thank all passengers participating in these voyages for their good humor and spirit of adventure in accepting these unexpected changes," Quark Expeditions President Patrick Shaw said in a statement.

Quark Expeditions said it continues to work with travel agents to ensure that delayed passengers get new itineraries for their trips home.
