Allegiant to serve both Orlando airports

December 03, 2009

Allegiant Air will start a new base Feb. 1 at Orlando International Airport, moving part of its operations from Orlando Sanford.

After the move, the airline will serve 10 cities form Orlando International and 21 from Sanford.

Allegiant is shifting some of its business to Orlando International to make it easier for passengers on those flights to get to the area’s theme parks and to make the carrier move competitive.

"It allows us to be responsive to the many Orlando travelers who prefer the proximity of Orlando International to the most prominent attractions in the Orlando area, including, most obviously, Walt Disney World," said Robert Ashcroft, Allegiant's vice president of planning.

This would be a great accommodation to the citzens to south east Minnesota. Flying out of a smaller airports is alot better than flying out of bigger airports. Adding a flight to Orlando out of RST will be very beneficial to Allegiant and to The Rochester International Airport

I sure wish you would have offered this sooner, as I have already booked with another carrier. The next trip will be with you, and so much more convient.

I agree with the last poster - I also live in Rochester, Mn, and would love to see more competitive and convienent flights from there to Florida (and elswhere). I'll look forward to Allegiant flights to Florida!

This is good news. Allegiant already flies from my home base, Rochester MN, to Las Vegas. Maybe they'll offer service to the Orlando area from RST so I don't have to travel all the way to Minneapolis for my Florida visits. Flying from smaller airports is so much nicer IMHO than traveling to a larger one just to get a flight, and competition is a good thing too.
