Seabourn attributes record bookings to first-time passengers

February 02, 2010

Seabourn Cruises said that new passengers drove record booking volume for the month of January.

The luxury line said that first-time passengers booking a Seabourn cruise in January was up 79% over the same period in 2009, and 155% over January 2008.

The new bookers contributed to a 106% increase in bookings overall compared to the same period of 2009, and 215% increase over 2008.

These numbers are not adjusted for the 57% capacity increase that Seabourn made over the last year with the introduction of two new ships: the 450-passenger Odyssey last June, and its sister-ship, the Sojourn, slated to debut this June.

In a statement, Seabourn CEO Pamela Conover said, "We are attracting higher numbers of both first-time travelers and repeat guests."

The Odyssey, the Sojourn and the Quest, scheduled to debut in 2011, will together represent a capacity increase of over 200% for the line in a three-year period.
