Republic axes Frontier's regional operation

February 05, 2010

Republic Airways is closing down Lynx Aviation, Frontier’s turboprop subsidiary.

Lynx will close shop in April, Republic said, and 175 jobs will be cut. The move is part of Republic’s “fleet simplification,” following last year’s acquisitions of Frontier and Midwest.

Most flying done by Lynx will be replaced by regional jets operated by Republic crews. Jet service will be more competitive than turboprops on the routes, Republic said.

The company will drop flights to Fargo, N.D., and Tulsa, Okla., on April 5.

lynx was difficult to deal with. We had commissions due our agency, that they ignored, despite our repeated billing. No big loss.

Hope they don't cut any more of the Lynx routes. Thanks to F9 opening up DRO, Untied's stranglehold and $1000 fares, we can now fly on F9 for $100RT if bought sufficiently in advance. If they pull out, Untied will go right back to $1000! Their execs must be hoping.
