NEW YORK -- American Express introduced a program, Business Savings, designed to reduce expenses for the millions of U.S. businesses -- including travel agencies -- that are merchants for its credit card.

The merchants can save on the cost of office supplies, computer equipment, cell phone services and shipping, as well as temporary staffing and consulting services.

Charter partners include Office Depot, IBM and Nextel; American Express said additional partners will be signed in coming months.

The program is offered free to all U.S. merchants, regardless of account size. American Express said the focus of the program is to provide Amexco merchants with smaller volumes the opportunity to realize the kinds of savings that larger businesses already obtain through volume purchasing.
