WASHINGTON -- Expedia's Mark Britton, senior vice president,
general counsel and secretary, will join three other industry
attorneys for a panel discussion on travel law and the Web during
the fifth annual National Travel Law Symposium set for Jan. 15
here.
Britton and the other panelists -- representing Cruise.com,
Travelocity and Worldspan -- expect to address a wide range of
legal questions that may have surfaced first at the larger Web
travel businesses but have applicability across many types and
sizes of agency operations. The panel is called The Law and
Cyberspace.
The panel topics may include screen scraping, credit card fraud
and other vulnerabilities for sellers, antitrust issues, GDS
regulations, disclaimers and consumer complaints, click contracts
and supplier contracts.
The overall theme for the symposium in 2003 will be Travel,
Technology and the Law, and the event is set for the Washington
Marriott hotel.
Sponsored by Travel Weekly and ARTA, the symposium is open to
all interested travel industry personnel and will focus on legal
developments in travel technology and recommended best
practices.
Travel attorneys, members of Congress and their staff, law
professors and other legal professionals are invited to submit
papers on the symposium topic. The program will include invited
speakers and papers selected from among submissions.
Suggested topics for papers are: strategies for managing legal
risks associated with an agency's Web site; recommended personnel
policies for telecommuting employees or contractors; prospective
uses of digital signatures in online agency sales; copyright and
trademark issues arising from the use of supplier materials on
agency sites; and pros and cons -- and risks -- of e-mail marketing
to clients.
The registration fee is $79, covering lunch and a binder with
symposium papers.
To request a copy of the call for comments, or to register for

Rooms have been blocked for delegates at the Marriott, at the
