Valerie Wilson Travel not on the block

(Travel agents) Permanent link

Kimberly Wilson Wetty wants to set the record straight on a rumor circulating among industry gossips that her family had recently sold Valerie Wilson Travel (No. 27 on Travel Weekly’s 2010 Power List) to the Carlson Companies.

"Absolutely not true," insisted Wilson, who with her sister, Jennifer Wilson-Buttigieg, serves as co-president of VWT. Kimberly told Travel Weekly that the family-owned and operated agency is "not for sale" and that family members "haven't spoken to Carlson or anyone else."

In fact, she noted, "We're just going into the second generation of our family business."

Valerie Ann Wilson, the founder, chairman and CEO of the New York agency, tapped her daughters, Jennifer and Kimberly, as co-presidents in 2005 and transferred 48% of the company’s stock to them, with each daughter receiving 24%.

Tapping into a 'bare' market

(Hotels, Caribbean) Permanent link

Breezes Grand Negril in Negril, Jamaica and Breezes Rio Bueno on Jamaica’s north coast between Falmouth and Discovery Bay have tapped into the growing nude recreation ("nakation") market with a new four-night Bare Bones package, starting at $900 per person, double.

The way Breezes sees it, au naturel guests will save on checked-baggage fees, as a carry-on bag should be sufficient for a tube of toothpaste and sunscreen.

Guests will be free to enjoy a clothes-free vacation in one of 44 au naturel private beachfront accomodations at Breezes Grand Negril or in one of the 52 beachfront suites with 24-hour room service at Breezes Rio Bueno.

Both resorts offer a full-service Blue Mahoe Spa where each Bare Bones booking includes a complimentary full body wax and and a post-sunburn aloe wrap.

Rates are all-inclusive, tipping is not permitted and only golf clubs, carts and caddies carry additional fees.

  • Consumer media discover that travel agents do exist

"Contrary to some thoughts, travel agents do exist ... We are usually able to get clients better prices, and we know we can see that clients have better experiences. And as our personal motto is: Our Service Travels With You."
