And you thought that canceled flight en route to your niece’s wedding was bad. Meet some of the “World’s Unluckiest Travelers,” a title that Travel Guard has since bestowed on Gary Feldman, a doctor from California who broke both of his legs in a fall in Vietnam.
Travel Guard said that more than 800 trips-gone-bad were submitted in its contest to find the world's unluckiest traveler. And more than 4,000 people voted for the good doctor’s story, in which he stepped to the edge of a cliff to relieve himself but then slipped and fell 30 feet.
Feldman was awarded $10,000 for his “dream vacation,” courtesy of Travel Guard, which presented the reward this month in New York. A performance by the comedy improv group Lunatic Fringe, featuring Travel Weekly contributing editor Harvey Chipkin, included some very funny nonsense about tourism in “North Waziristan.”
