Frequent-flyer points for Fido or FatCat?
"Woof" and "meow" if the pet's owner is a member of Virgin Australia's Velocity Frequent Flyer loyalty program.
Velocity members can earn 300 points each time their dog or cat flies on the carrier's domestic network.
Silver, gold and platinum members receive a points bonus.
Points are awarded for a maximum of two pet carriers per booking.
"Virgin Australia flies almost 30,000 pets each year around Australia, and a large proportion are owned by Velocity members, so we know how important their companions are to them," said CEO Neil Thompson on the company website.
The airline unleashed Australia's first frequent-flyer program for pets "to give our members another truly unique way to earn points," according to Thompson.
Velocity Frequent Flyer also launched a nationwide search to find an official pet ambassador for the program. Australians are invited to enter their cat or dog into the competition via Velocity's Facebook page.
The chosen pet will receive the title of Velocity Pet Ambassador, will star in marketing campaigns and will receive a Velocity pet gift pack.
