Scrub Island Resort opens in the BVI

February 11, 2010

Scrub Island Resort in the British Virgin Islands opened on schedule today, becoming the first new resort to be built from the ground up in the BVI in more than 15 years.

Scrub Island is one mile offshore from Beef Island on Tortola, site of the main airport in the BVI.

Facilities include 26 oceanview guestrooms and 26 suites; a lagoon pool with a waterfall; 55 deep-water berths at the marina; a spa and health club; two restaurants and bars; four beaches; and the Dive BVI shop.

Resort yachts transfer guests to and from the island; golf carts are used at the resort and around the island.

Scuba, dive and fishing trips as well as excursions to nearby islands can be booked through the resort.

Introductory nightly rates through March 31 start at $399 per room, double occupancy, with breakfast. A family rate for two adults and two kids in a two-bedroom suite starts at $959 per night, valid to Dec. 18.

February 24,2010 We also visited Scrub Island Property last year. We lived on St.Thomas for years and the BVI's are different, on the good side. Looking at the above rates, someone is not aware of prices throughout the Caribbean. I bet you that soon after they open rates will be half. Just like the rest of us. I wish them luck! R & B

We had a chance to check out Scrub Island in November, when it was still at the hard-hat stage. It was clear that lots of thought and quality were going into this resort. I expect, it will have a rather different feel and personality than other resorts in the BVI, a bit more formal, more like a Ritz or Four Seasons. Mike Thiel www.hideaways.com
