    Jamaica’s Brian Lumley, center, was named Caribbean Chef of the Year at last month’s Taste of the Caribbean 2013 culinary competitions.     Model Beth Ostrosky Stern, wife of radio personality Howard Stern and a North Shore Animal League supporter, took part in Renaissance Hotels Global Day of Discovery at the company’s Times Square property in New York. The hotel, one of 150 worldwide to take part in the event, partnered with the North Shore Animal League of America to provide New Yorkers the opportunity to adopt a pet on site. As part of the celebration, R Lounge at the Renaissance New York Times Square launched an animal-friendly and -inspired food and cocktail menu.

    American Express Travel recognized 27 of its top-performing representative agencies with an exclusive Kenyan safari, hosted by preferred partner Micato Safaris. The winners of the Representative Excellence Award were recognized for their 2012 sales performance and ongoing commitment to their clients. Joining the winners for a hot-air balloon sightseeing excursion was Tony Gonchar, vice president of American Express Travel Representative Network (he’s in the rear of the basket, just to the right of the pilot).

    Todd Stallbaumer, left, consumer and trade marketing director for the Oklahoma Tourism & Recreation Department, was presented with Travel Alliance Partner’s 2013 Spirit of TAP Award. The award was established in 2012 in memory of TAP Partner Ann Thomas of Western Discovery to recognize a supplier who embodies the true Spirit of the Travel Alliance Partners. Joining Stallbaumer at the awards presentation were Jim Coggin of the Virginia Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau, last year’s recipient, and Tracy Gruber, Ann Thomas’ daughter.

    Turkish Airlines was chosen as Best Airline in Europe for the third year in a row by Skytrax, a U.K.-based consultancy that runs an airline and airport review and ranking website. In addition, the airline was honored for Best Business Class Catering for its Flying Chef service offered to passengers on long-haul flights as well as for Best Airline in Southern Europe. Turkish Airlines CEO Temel Kotil was presented with the three awards at last month’s Paris Air Show.
