First NYC Joie de Vivre under development
LOS ANGELES -- Joie de Vivre Hotels (JDV), which last year merged with Thompson Hotels to form Commune Hotels & Resorts
, has its first New York City hotel under development.
Commune Hotels CEO Stephen Brandman, speaking at the Boutique & Lifestyle Lodging Association conference here this morning, said the hotel would have about 250 rooms. Brandman declined to disclose further details such as specific location or planned opening date.
JDV, which was founded in San Francisco, will enter a New York market which is the most lucrative in the U.S., and which is where Thompson Hotels opened their first property, 60 Thompson, in 2001. Thompson has five hotels in the city, with the 250-room 5 Beekman Street hotel slated to open there in 2014. Thompson also operates the Hollywood Roosevelt, where the BLLA conference is taking place this week.
Last year, Thompson and JDV were merged under a company that was named Commune Hotels & Resorts in February. Commune oversees about 50 hotels in the U.S. and U.K. JDV's hotels include San Francisco's Hotel Kabuki and the Hotel Erwin in Los Angeles' Venice district. Commune investors include John Pritzker, the son of Hyatt founder Jay Pritzker. Follow Danny King on Twitter @dktravelweekly.
