Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort & Spa will close until Sept. 26, due to heavy debris on the property from Tropical Storm Hanna.

Guests still at the resort because the airport is closed are being accommodated for free until the airport reopens and flights resume, according to Kevin Froemming, president of Unique Vacations, worldwide representative for Sandals and Beaches.

The decision to close the resort was difficult, but "the safety and security of our guests, many of whom are young children, is always our top priority," Froemming said.

Guests holding reservations for Beaches Turks & Caicos while the resort is closed have the option of relocating to one of the three Beaches Resorts in Jamaica or returning to the resort any time from Sept. 26 to Dec. 20, 2008, or next fall from Sept. 1 to Dec. 20, 2009.

Guests also can get a free "Rainy Night on Us" certificate, valid for a year from the original date of travel.

The storm did not affect the construction of Beaches' Italian Village addition, which is still on course to debut in January 2009.
