In a positive development for Hawaii's retailers, a state hearings
officer declared that by selling Hawaiian Air coupons through its
automatic teller machines, the Bank of Hawaii was acting as a
travel agent. Explaining the ruling, the officer essentially said
that in the course of a sales transaction, an ATM and a travel
agent perform the same function. To reiterate, this is good news
for the trade, but how do you agents like being told that there's
no difference between you and hunk of metal with some buttons, a
slot and a screen?
How is Hurricane Mitch like the commission caps? It comes on
strong, scaring everyone into thinking there's going to be a major,
devastating impact, but it just ends up lingering around, making
everyone tense and miserable.
