A recent study examining on-line purchasing habits revealed that the No. 1 obstacle preventing consumers from booking through the Web is their fear of transmitting credit card information. In a related development, another study -- conducted in my imagination -- examining denial in the travel industry revealed that the No. 1 misconception among agents is that consumers will be paralyzed by this fear forever.

The National Hockey League will team with travel wholesalers to package the NHL's All-Star games in Tampa, Fla., scheduled for late January. These official travel packages, believed to represent a sports industry first, will include hotel, transfers and event tickets. If they want to make some real money, I think wholesalers should consider throwing in beer and face paint, as well.
