Get ready for the stampede. The annual Running of the Brides, set for Aug. 14 at Filene's Basement in Manhasset, N.Y., has a Jamaican twist this year.
Free and open to the public, hundreds of brides-to-be and their helpers will line up early Friday morning to be among the first to rush to the racks at 8 a.m., hoping to snag a deal on one of 1,700 designer wedding gowns -- priced from 70% to 95% below retail at $249, $499 and $699.
In addition, brides-to-be can enter for a chance to win a honeymoon in Jamaica, with accommodations at any Sandals property in Jamaica.
Before the doors open, judging of a Jamaican-themed costume competition will take place at 7:15 a.m. The two winners who display the best "Jamaican-chic" fashion styles each will receive a $249 gift card. Representatives from the Jamaica Tourist Board, Sandals Resorts and Air Jamaica will serve as judges.
