As I was perusing the Vacation & Country Properties classifieds
in the New York Times recently -- -- hey, a guy can dream -- -- I
ran across a little item that knocked me flat.
Under Rental Properties in Manhattan was the following listing:
"Times Square area. New Year's in New York. No Problem! Beautiful,
eclectic 1BR located Theater Row, 45th St. btwn 8th/9th Ave. 1.5
blocks from Times Square. New Year's Wkend. Bidding starts
Somebody is actually asking, and will probably get, at least
$6,200 for a weekend rental on their one-bedroom New York
apartment. If that doesn't bring the millennium home for you,
What gets me is, I live right up the street from there, in a
one-bedroom apartment, no less. But am I going to let my flat for a
fat fee? Unfortunately, no. See, you won't be able to lure me out
of my apartment this New Year's for love nor money nor even pizza.
I'll be camped out with lots of bottled water and all the extra
cash I can borrow.
But if you want to try to change my mind...well, you know how to
get in touch.
