Couples who wed at the Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa on Maui on any date in 2009 that has a "9" in it -- for instance, the 9th, 19th or 29th or any day in September -- get a 19% discount off wedding celebration packages as well as other wedding-related charges the bride and groom may choose to add on, such as catering events connected with the wedding.
The resort calls it the Take It to the Nines wedding special.
Carrying the theme further, the Grand Wailea will give couples their ninth night free to extend their honeymoon following an eight-night consecutive stay.
Couples that block a group of rooms will ensure that their guests also receive a ninth night free. Starting rates in 2009 are $399 for a standard terrace room and $564 for an oceanview room; rates do not include resort charges or state taxes.
The Grand Wailea offers a choice of outdoor-wedding backdrops: waterfalls, tropical gardens, gazebos and the beach. The resort is also home to the Seaside Chapel, the only chapel in Wailea.
Wedding ceremonies and celebrations from which to choose are:
• Haleakala Celebration: At $4,800, this package includes use of the Seaside Chapel and Chapel Gardens for the ceremony, the services of a wedding manager and a clergyman, a white orchid lei exchange and a bouquet for the bride. The Haleakala Celebration is available for 9:30 a.m. ceremonies only.
• Lei Aloha Celebration: This package includes all of the above, with minor variations, plus a two-tiered wedding cake that serves 15 and a bottle of champagne served with the cake in a garden gazebo following the ceremony. Daytime rates start at $6,100, while evening rates are from $6,700.
• Candlelight Celebration: This package features all of the above plus the following upgrades: a hand-tied bouquet of roses and tropical flowers for the bride and coordinating lei with orchids for the groom; an altar arrangement of 40 candles; pillar candles and scattered flower petals along the aisle; and a classical harpist during the service. The Candlelight Celebration is priced from $7,000.
The wedding packages do not include accommodations.
