Happy birthday, Internet

Today is the 30th birthday of the Internet. Believe it or not, 30 years ago today, two computers got together and started talking to each other, an event that within minutes completely revolutionized the pornography industry and introduced an entire lexicon of terms to the English language that are understood by a total of four people, none of whom you'd be likely to pal up with on a desert island.

Of course it wasn't long before the male gender found that computers, thentofore the province of pocket-protected nebbishes, could add significantly to its already bursting arsenal of manhood enhancers. Techno-machismo raced through the land like a testosterone tsunami.

How much RAM do you have? How big is your monitor? How fast is your modem? These questions replaced overnight the suddenly passe barometers of manliness such as engine size, boat length or the ability to flatten beer cans against one's forehead.

Of course, today, the Internet is an integral part of how we take care of business. It has grown so much, but it's still really a baby. Who knows what it will grow up to be? Happy birthday, Internet.
