Seventeen tour and cruise operators helped home-based agents hone their product-knowledge skills during host agency Partners in Travel’s eighth annual convention, held this month in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
The destination was chosen to reflect the agency’s convention theme, "Rocket Your Profits." The three-day meeting, hosted by the Florida Space Coast Office of Tourism, featured networking receptions and roundtable discussions with suppliers as well as tours of area hotels and Kennedy Space Center.
After the convention, about half of the agents in the group took part in a seminar at sea aboard Royal Caribbean's Monarch of the Seas, where they watched the launch of the space shuttle Atlantis from the ship’s sun deck.
"The future of the travel industry is with dedicated agents like each of our partners, who are out there providing service and involvement in their communities," said Tom Baumann, president of Travel Leaders Leisure Group, the parent company of Partners in Travel.
"We can build all the technology we want to, but at the end of the day, this business is still very much about relationships, and they have all successfully built them in their local areas."
Suppliers in attendance included Access America Insurance, Alamo/National Car Rental, Ama Waterways, Carnival Cruise Lines, Funjet Vacations, Globus Family of Brands, Holland America Line, Market Ease Online, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruise Line, Princess Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International, Sand and Sea Marketing, Travel Impressions, Unique Vacations Sandals & Beaches Resorts and Viking River Cruises.
Next year’s Partners in Travel convention will be a held on a four-night cruise onboard NCL's Norwegian Sky from Sept. 27 to Oct. 1.
