Even before the blithely lethal coziness of Jessica Fletcher's Cabot Cove became Sunday nights' Maine event, the land Down East enjoyed a reputation for bucolic charm combined with Yankee common sense.

So it may surprise some readers to know that the city of Bangor, Maine, is gaining new notoriety as the airlines' Eastern Seaboard hoosegow.

Apparently there's been something of a boom-let in Trans-Atlantic airborne boozing of late, creating the need for a logical dumping ground for liquored-up flyers. Bangor, home to a former Air Force base that features an 11,000-foot runway, fits the bill nicely.

The city does quite well out of the deal, charging up to $5,000 for the privilege of using their fly-in detox facilities.

Looks like air-rage is going to be a growth industry.
