Maine resorts still reveling in last season's success

Many New England ski areas are still smiling over the strong ski season they posted last year, some for the second year in a row.

Maine ski areas racked up their second-best season ever in 2008-09, for example, with a whopping 1.4 million ski/snowboard visits, just under the record set the previous season.

Resorts credit the strong early season snow, beefed-up snowmaking systems and increased marketing efforts on the part of Ski Maine Association and the tourist office of Maine.

Overall, Maine increased its share of the competitive northern New England market by 1%.
