It's all about retro-romance at the Mount Airy Casino Resort in Mount Pocono, Pa.
The new casino resort, which opened in November 2007, is built on the site of the iconic former Mount Airy Lodge, legendary among East Coast romance travelers of decades past for its heart-shaped tubs, candlelight dinners and catchy TV jingles.
The resort is now looking for couples who were married, honeymooned or vacationed at the Poconos Mountains property in its earlier, somewhat kitschier, incarnation to participate in its Celebrate Amore weekend, scheduled for June 13 and 14.
The weekend will feature vow renewals, a wedding reception, a bridal expo and a Sunday champagne brunch.
Organizers are asking Mount Airy Lodge "alumni" to submit photographs, postcards and other memorabilia associated with their stays at the old resort for a lobby display to be exhibited that weekend.
"We've already had a few couples who honeymooned at Mount Airy decades ago send us their photo albums because they were so excited the resort had come back to life," said Mount Airy advertising manager Debbie Ropars.
"When we saw the pictures and vintage postcards, we immediately realized we had to share them with our current patrons so they could experience the nostalgia and magic of Mount Airy Casino Resort."
Mount Airy will offer special resort packages that weekend as well as prize giveaways. Call (877) 682-4791 or visit www.mountairycasino.com. To submit photos or memorabilia, call the Mount Airy Honeymoon Hotline at (570) 243-4865 or email [email protected].
