Sabre said it will charge airlines a mildly prohibitive $70,000 fee
each time they want to make electronic tickets available through
the CRS in a new country. This is what I enjoy seeing in the travel
industry: efforts to discourage technological advancement. Next
thing you know, air travel is convenient, printing costs are down,
trees are saved -- stop the madness!
Travel agent Ron Monks says he is in the process of forming a
corporation whose goal is to take over TWA and make it a REAL
agent-friendly airline. One day, everybody's crowing about how
agents need to be less reliant on airlines. The next day, agents
are trying to acquire airlines. When it comes to confusing
relationships, this industry beats anything on "Melrose Place."
