Planning for Strasbourg

Someone remind me to register for ASTA Congress 2000 before I leave ASTA Congress 1999.

I don't know whether anyone else has had to deal with what I can only call an onerous hotel booking process for Strasbourg, France, the site of this year's event.

Perhaps it would have been easier if I was making arrangements just for myself. That was not the case. I was arranging registrations and hotel confirmations for Travel Weekly's entourage of eight journalists who will cover the event for our readers and Web site members who are not going to France.

By the time I was done, I had the Society's fax-back number memorized and I had spoken to every member of its press relations team at least once.

Then came the Strasbourg Housing Bureau, in Strasbourg, through which all hotel bookings are processed. I now have a friend there, and I know her fax number by heart, too.

I wonder whether agency managers who also are sending a group of employees to Strasbourg are having a similar Quixotic experience.

After all was said and done, we ended up booked in a two-star downtown. But seeing as how it's France, we're betting we will eat well.
