Newlyweds Ryan and Kelley Pattee became the first couple to sleep at the Top of the Rock, the landmark observation deck 67 floors above New York's Rockefeller Center, as winners of a contest created by Brides magazine in honor of its 75th anniversary.
The couple spent Jan. 27 in the Brides Mile High Honeymoon Suite, which was designed by Maria McBride, wedding style director for the magazine.
The headboard of the bed was upholstered in plush white velvet with Swarovski crystal buttons and framed with swirls of plaster flourishes.
They will continue their honeymoon with an all-expenses-paid trip to Bora Bora furnished by Air Tahiti Nui, Tahiti Tourisme North America and the Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora, where they will spend six nights in an over-water bungalow. The honeymoon is valued at $20,500.
In November, Brides magazine put a call out to newlyweds across the country for inspirational stories that would explain why they deserved the honeymoon of their dreams.
Just prior to their wedding, Kelley Pattee's father was diagnosed with cancer and her mother fractured a hip and was unable to care for herself. The couple married, but a honeymoon was out of the question as the daughter cared for her parents.
In November, with both parents recovered, Ryan Pattee wrote his essay and submitted it without his wife's knowledge.
He ended it by saying: "She is the most caring, sincere girl in the world. I would do anything to give this to her."
