One way of measuring a season's success is to analyze the numbers of skier visits year by year, but trend spotters can also gain some insight into consumer behavior by looking at sales of ski- and snowboard-related gear.
This past season was the second highest ever for sales, according to SIA Snow Sports RetailTrak, conducted by the Leisure Trends Group, with apparel leading the way, followed by equipment.
Interestingly, so-called fat skis sold more than snowboards, and in news that will please parents, a record 1.1 million helmets were sold last season.
