Two ticket-stock thieves were apprehended New Year's Eve following
a rash of agency robberies in California. The notion of robbers
targeting travel agencies is about the saddest thing I've ever
contemplated. With all the blows the trade has sustained in recent
years -- commission reductions, Internet competition -- robbing an
agency is like seeing a guy get hit by a car and then running over
to pick his pocket.
The sister company of Priceline.com is working on patenting its
Flexticket concept, under which passengers purchase an air ticket
at a presumably deep discount and let the airline pick the flight.
Personally, I wouldn't be comfortable letting an airline decide
what pants I should wear let alone what flight I should take, but
maybe there's a lot of folks more Flex-ible than me.
