The Interactive Travel Services Association, a group of Web-based
travel retailers, accused the airlines of paying on-line agencies
less commission than other agencies in order to steer consumers to
airlines' Web sites. Hear that, traditional agencies? So do you
still feel threatened by your cyber-colleagues?
An Iowa-based start-up called AccessAir is promising that when
it begins service, it will offer a simplified fare structure and
10% agent pay with no caps. It's so cute the way these young kids
start off, all pie-eyed, brimming with idealism. It's so sad when,
inevitably, peer pressure and market realities squash their
youthful dreams like a little bug.
