Consolidation in the airline industry, the tour operator industry,
even the retail travel trade -- it seems like nothing's ever
consolidated enough for some people, so let's stop being
wishy-washy about it. Combine it all, suppliers and retailers, into
one company. No, that's not consolidated enough. Make it one guy.
He runs it all. Wanna go somewhere? You gotta call him. I mean, if
you're going to consolidate, consolidate, already.
Even cruise lines are freaking out over Y2K, and rightfully so
-- can you imagine being in the disco at midnight on Jan. 1 and,
all of a sudden, music from 1900 starts playing?
How seriously are agencies taking the Y2K problem? Our old
friend C.R. Mudgeon of Medieval Travel said, "Year 2000? Bah! It'll
always be 1972 in my office."
