CARNIVAL
CRUISE LINE is offering 20 new shore excursions to Alaska
this season, including a zip line canopy tour, luxury SUV
excursions and a train ride on a vintage parlor car. With the new
tours, Carnival is offering a total of 120 different shore
excursions on the lines seven-day Glacier Route and Glacier Bay
voyages aboard the 2,124-passenger Carnival Spirit. Among the new
tours is a Rain Forest Canopy & Zip Line Adventure in Juneau
that starts with a zip line tour across a mile-long network of
platforms mounted on Sitka Spruce trees. The treetop adventure
offers participants a birds-eye view of a number of Juneau
landmarks, including the historic downtown and Bullion Creek. For

SMALL-SHIP
LINE CRUISE WEST, meanwhile, has added four new shore
excursions to its Alaska itineraries, and now includes two nights
at Glacier Bay National Park. Guests can extend their stay in the
park by choosing the Wilderness Inside Passage itinerary, which
includes more departures on two ships: the 84-guest Spirit of
Discovery and the 102-guest Spirit of Endeavour. One of Cruise
Wests new shore excursions includes a guided hike through Glacier

HOLLAND
AMERICA LINE is promoting Early Advantage rates on Alaska
cruises and CruiseTours when booked by Sept. 15; past guests
receive greater discounts. In addition, Holland America has added
more CruiseTour itineraries in Alaska for 2008. With the special
advance fares, guests can book a seven-day Alaskan Explorer cruise,
roundtrip from Seattle, for $799 for an inside cabin or $1,329 for
a cabin with a verandah. Another option is an Alaskan and the Yukon
CruiseTour, ranging in length from 10 to 20 days, starting at
$1,249 for an inside stateroom and $1,489 for outside
staterooms.
THE CRUISE
COMPANY is offering a larger number of Alaska itineraries
this year. With roundtrip sailings from Seattle, Holland America
offers 58 Alaskan Explorer departures with port calls to Sitka,
Juneau and Ketchikan, Alaska, and Victoria, British Columbia. Two
new Vista ships, the Noordam (Sunday departures) and the Oosterdam
(Saturdays) join the flagship Amsterdam (Fridays). The Noordam
visits Glacier Bay on all departures, while the Amsterdam visits
either Tracy Arm and Sawyer Glacier or Glacier Bay. The Oosterdam
cruises to the Hubbard Glacier or Wrengell-St. Elias National Park.
