TRAVEL SUPPLIERS in the Pacific archipelago of Palau are preparing for a surge in business following the recently completed season of the TV show Survivor. Palau was the setting of the CBS series. Traffic on the Palau Visitors Authority Web site has skyrocketed from 1,000 hits a month prior to the show to nearly 7 million in February, according to the authoritys director, Mary Ann Delanel. The visitors authority coordinated an effort among local suppliers to offer vacations. For example, the Cliffside Hotel Palau and NECO Marine have partnered to offer a seven-night package with five days of scuba diving for two at $1,200 per person. AIR TAHITI NUIS new nonstop flights from New York to Tahiti continue on to Sydney, so tour operators are seizing the opportunity to create a range of Australia packages. Pacific Holidays unveiled a South Pacific Express package that includes three nights in Sydney, three nights in Auckland, New Zealand and one night in Tahiti. The package includes sightseeing tours, daily breakfast and one lunch, as well as roundtrip air from New York to Tahiti and roundtrip air from Sydney to Auckland on Qantas Airways. GUTSY WOMEN TRAVEL is promoting its women-only tours with a Bring a Friend promotion that cuts $100 off the price of a land tour for every friend a customer can get to book the trip. ABERCROMBIE & KENT opened a destination-management office in Beijing, its first in mainland China. A&K opened the office in response to increased demand for travel in China, which is up 48% this year, according to A&K Chairman Geoffrey Kent.
