SHANGRI-LA HOTELS AND RESORTS signed a management agreement with the developer Menetian Macau Limited to operate the 500-room Shangri-La Hotel, Macau, and the 1,000-room Traders Hotel, Macau. Both properties, located on the Cotai Strip 20 minutes from downtown and a few minutes from the airport, will open in 2008. THE HOTELBENCHMARK SURVEY BY DELOITTE showed that revenue per available room (revPAR) in China grew during the first eight months of 2005 at a rate of 14.3%, which is higher than the international average. The major commercial markets of Beijing, Taipei and Hong Kong did even better, with growth in excess of 20%; in Shanghai the growth was 17%. The figures are bolstered by World Tourism Organization research that shows Chinas international visitor arrival numbers to have increased by 16% and its tourism receipts by 20%. The only country that has hotel revenue figures surpassing those of China is Vietnam, where Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city have posted growth of more than 30%. PACIFIC DELIGHT WORLD TOURS is offering a $150 early-booking discount on two of its most popular tours of China, the 16-night China Classic and the 17-night Majestic China. The reduction is available to those who book with a deposit by Dec. 15.
