AIR FRANCE AND TRANSAVIA.COM, a wholly owned subsidiary of Air France-KLM, are poised to launch a French carrier on the international medium-haul leisure market. The new airline will be managed separately from Air France and will operate under the brand, its sister company in the Netherlands. By next summer, the carrier will serve about 10 Mediterranean destinations in Morocco, Tunisia, Spain, Italy and Egypt via 67 weekly flights out of Paris Orly airport, with another five being considered by the following winter.

RAIL EUROPE'S 2006 SALES of Thalys tickets in North America are up 12% over the same period in 2005, with worldwide sales up 5.5% a year in 2004 and 2005. In 2008, new portions of high-speed lines in Belgium and in the Netherlands will enable Thalys to increase speeds on all segments, trimming an hour from the Paris-Amsterdam and Paris-Cologne routes. EOS AIRLINES AND RED CARNATION HOTELS are offering a joint promotion that enables Red Carnation guests to book a New York/ London roundtrip flight on the carrier by Dec. 31 and bring a companion for free. THE BALMORAL, a Rocco Forte hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland, is extending its Five-Star Kids program to infants and teenagers. Program highlights for infants include teddy bear turndown service, natural baby toiletries, all-cotton baby linens and other frequently used supplies. Teens receive the use of a Sony Playstation 2 and games, Internet access, manicures at the Balmoral Spa and the loan of age-appropriate DVDs. The Five-Star Kids program has resulted in a 30% boost in family guests during holiday periods since its inception a year ago, according to the property.
