Travel Weekly's Europe E-letter: Nov. 10, 2004

FAIRER AIR: Trafalgar Tours is promoting its new 2005 Europe and Britain product line with discount companion air fares in conjunction with 31 out of 100 programs beginning in London, Paris, Madrid, Frankfurt and Zurich. The economy fares start at $199 in shoulder season (April, May, September and October) and at $499 in high season (June to August) for one of two people traveling together when the first person pays full land and air fare, which must be paid in full by Dec. 29 for travel between April 4 and Oct. 31, 2005. For more information or reservations, call (800) 854-0103 or visit www.trafalgar.com

NAME GAME: The British Incoming Tour Operators Association (BITOA) announced at World Travel Market in London Nov. 8 that it changed its name to UKinbound. The snappier new moniker reflects the more modern and friendly -- yet still distinctly British -- image that the organization wants to project, said UKinbound chief executive Stephen Dowd. UKinbound represents more than 250 British tourism suppliers with 5,000 outlets across the U.K. For more information, visit www.bitoa.co.uk.

A WALES OF A DEAL: In other news at World Travel Market, the Wales Tourist Board (WTB) added an online destination specialist program to the www.traveltradewales.com site it launched earlier this year. Officials said the e-training program will increase the knowledge and confidence of operators and agents selling Wales. When all course units are completed, participants receive a Wales Specialist Certificate and are be entered in a prize drawing for a Welsh fam trip set for October 2005.

DON'T PASS THIS UP: Eurail will expand the range of its popular Selectpasses in 2005, adding several new east European railways to the program.  The new destinations include Slovenia and Croatia -- treated as one country -- and Bulgaria, Serbia and Montenegro, also treated as one.  And with the addition of new bonus partner Grimaldi Ferries between Italy and Spain, those two countries become "bordering" countries and eligible for combining on one Eurail Selectpass. New member countries in the Eurail network are also included in three newly created Eurail Regional Passes -- Austria-Slovenia/Croatia, Germany-Denmark and Hungary-Slovenia/Croatia -- which will take effect in January.  In other news, the price of the classic 17-country Eurailpass for travel from 10 days to three months will remain unchanged for the second year running, while other pass prices will increase by 3% to 4%. Eurail products are available from ACP Rail International at http://www.eurail-acprail.com/ or (866) 9-EURAIL; Rail Europe at http://agent.raileurope.com or (888) 382-7245; or DER at www.der.com or (800) 838-3903.

FLORIDA KEY: In other rail news, Eurostar is offering 7% commission to all agents to promote its new Miami retailer help desk at (800) 791-2842. Having joined ARC as a participant carrier earlier this year, Eurostar is bookable via the GDSs, as well as through sales agents such as Rail Europe Group and via its own Web site at www.eurostar.com
