TOURISM AUTHORITY will be holding its Hawaii Tourism
Conference on Sept. 13 and 14 at the Hawaii Convention Center. The
sessions will cover industry trends, a look at the global
marketplace and a peek in to the 2006 marketing plans for Hawaii.

THE OUTRIGGER WAIKIKI on the Beach and the Ukulele
Guild of Hawaii will be presenting free workshops on the Hawaiian
Ukulele on Sept. 10 and Nov. 12. Part of an islandwide program,
Embracing Our Local Culture, ukulele player Les Nunes will teach
and speak about the instrument. Nunes great-grandfather, Manuel
Nunes, was one of Hawaiis original ukulele manufacturers before the
turn of the 20th century. The hotel will also showcase Nunes
vintage ukuleles. The workshop is free, but space is limited. Call

SUNTERRA CORP. entered an agreement to purchase
100% of Poipu Resort Partners for $27 million. Sunterra already
owned 30% of the resort group, who operates the Embassy Vacation
Resort Poipu Point in Kauai. Sunterra purchased West Maui Resort
Partners last year, which owns and operates the Embassy Vacation
Resort in Kaanapali, Maui. The purchase is scheduled to be complete
by the end of August.
THE ALA MOANA CENTER in Honolulu recently
announced that the Tsukiji Fish Market and Restaurant will open in
early 2006 in the shopping center with over 14,000 square feet of
tables, sushi bar, yakitori bar, Japanese buffet and a fish market.
The establishment was inspired by Tokyos Tsukiji Fish Market, which
lent the name to the new Hawaii location.
