LIFEFEST KAPALUA will take place from Sept. 22 to Sept. 25. The health and wellness event combines programs that educate, rejuvenate and encourage the human spirit through lectures, physical fitness and culinary demonstrations. THE SHERATON PRINCESS KAIULANI in Waikiki each year hosts a series of events in October to honor the legacy and birthday of its namesake. This year, the week of Oct. 9 to 16 will feature a different cultural activity, which include hula lessons, lei making, ukulele lessons and wood crafts. All activities will take place on the hotels Dolphin Lanai at 3 p.m. The week climaxes with the Princess Kaiulani Keiki Hula Festival on Oct. 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Go to www.starwoodhotels.com/hawaii for more information, or call (808) 922-6811.  

THE ALA MOANA HOTEL will host Oktoberfest island-style from Oct. 4 to 9. Polka dancing, sing-alongs, flagons of beer and authentic German menus will tantalize locals and visitors. The event will be held in the hotels Hibiscus Ballroom, starting at 6 p.m. each evening. Admission is $5 per person during the week, $8 on the weekend. AQUA HOTELS & RESORTS will make improvements at its boutique hotel, the Aqua Bamboo & Spa, located on Kuhio Avenue in Waikiki. Guest rooms, indoor common areas, the outdoor pool area and porte-cochere will be renovated. Rooms will be painted, receive new carpeting and appliances. A spokesperson for the hotel said the work should be completed by November.

THE HAWAII TOURISM AUTHORITY extended SMG Hawaiis contract as the operator and marketing arm of the Hawaii Convention Center. The original contract, set to expire in June 2006, was extended five years. SMG manages 74 arenas, seven stadiums, 51 convention centers and 34 performing arts centers around the country.
