Travel Weekly's Hawaii E-letter: Jan. 22, 2007

THE RITZ-CARLTON, KAPALUA on Maui will close from July 2 to Dec. 15 to undergo a $95 million renovation that will include the conversion of 178 rooms into 107 one- and two-bedroom condos. When the property reopens on Dec. 16, it will have a room count of 470, with 363 hotel rooms, down from the current 548. Some of the condos will be operated by Ritz-Carlton as vacation rentals.

THE DEVELOPER of Oahu's Ko Olina Resort has dropped plans for an aquarium that was to have been partially funded by a $75 million tax credit. The developer no longer considers it a necessary anchor for the resort, which has grown significantly in recent years. Even with a $75 million credit, tens of millions more would have been required for the project.

The package is available at the Outrigger Waikiki, Outrigger Reef and Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort on the Big Island through Dec. 21. The special allows bookings at Outrigger's nightly value rates.
