HAWAII'S DEPARTMENT of planning, economic development and tourism has reported a monthly increase in the visitor count (4.1%), length of stay (3.3%), total visitor days (7.5%), hotel occupancy (1.6 points to 75.7%), and average daily room rate (4.8%, to $177) in January. Canadians represented the largest percentage increase in number of visitors to the Islands (27.7 %), with Japan continuing a two-year-long slide with a decrease of 5.2%.

THE TURTLE BAY RESORT, operated by Benchmark Hospitality International, is offering the North Shore Family and Couples Adventure packages through Dec. 20. The packages include breakfast buffet, two activities per adult and child and a Hertz minivan or convertible rental. Activity options include on-site horseback rides, spa treatments, a helicopter tour and golf.
