Travel Weekly's Hawaii E-letter: May 23, 2005

CASTLE RESORTS & HOTELS has launched a package geared toward the romance market. The Kiss Me Everywhere package pairs condominium stays with adventure and romance for couples visiting Hawaii. A three-night minimum stay on Maui, Kauai, the Big Island or Oahu includes a rental car, a printed list of the best places to kiss, a disposable camera to capture those intimate moments and a photo album. Bath salts and candles complete the package that is valid for travel after June 15. Rates begin at $525 per couple. Visit www.castleresorts.com for info.

THE KAHALA MANDARIN ORIENTAL on Oahu presents its Sensational Suite and Dining package that offers guests partial or prime oceanview accommodations, roundtrip airport transfers in a town car, all meals (including in-room dining for two) at Hokus, Plumeria Beach House, the Veranda, Cabanas Seaside Grill and Honu Bar. Rates begin at $950 per night, double. Valid through June 30. Call (800) 367-2525 or log on to www.mandarinoriental.com/kahala.

THE SHERATON PRINCESS Kaiulani is celebrating 50 years on Waikiki Beach with a room package, dinner packages, new entertainment and even a line of unique Aloha shirts. The four-night package includes the fourth night for $50, a commemorative anniversary book and tickets to the Polynesian Journey dinner show. Rates start at $315 per night, double. For more information and packages log on to www.starwoodhotelshawaii.com/pk.cfm.

HAWAII HOTELS broke occupancy records during the first quarter of 2005 with an 85.4% rate, which equates to room revenue of $782.3 million. The total number of rooms sold was 4.8 million nights, a 4% increase from the previous year. One reason for the rise is a 1.1% drop in available rooms due to the conversion of many hotel rooms to condo and timeshare units. Hawaiis occupancy rates were second in the nation, with New York leading the way.

THE MAUNA LANI POINT and The Islands at Mauna Lani, two private home rentals on the Mauna Lani Resort property, is offering gourmet, private dinners prepared by an award-winning chef from Merrimans Waimea restaurant served in the home. Prepared in the kitchen and served on your lanai overlooking the golf course or ocean, this $600 (for two, plus $100 per each additional person) meal includes all staff and passed appetizers, plus choice such as Kona lobster salad, carpaccio and parmesan, Mahi-Mahi in spicy Lilikoi sauce with sweet corn and jasmine rice and applewood smoked Colorado lamb chops with orange-and-honey braised winter squash.
