Travel Weekly's Hawaii E-letter: November 28, 2005

BAGGAGEDIRECT, the service that enables travelers to transport bags from their home or office to their hotel rooms in Honolulu or Maui, is now operating out of Orange County and San Diego airports as well as Los Angeles. Aloha, Hawaiian, ATA and Continental airlines are participating carriers. Bags begin at $30 for one person, $15 for additional people.

OUTRIGGER ENTERPRISES has announced its second group of tenants that will occupy retail space within the $460 million Waikiki Beach Walk development. The latest group includes the restaurant Holokai Grill, the owners of which operate Tikis Grill in Waikiki. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf will also open, as will Coconut Willys, a nightlife entertainment lounge. Crazy Shirts, Maui Divers Jewelry, Taboras Diamond Head Gallery, Follie Follie and Marco Polo Watch Collection are also among the new retailers.


THE KAPALUA RESORT released its calendar of events for 2006, starting with the Mercedes Championships PGA golf tournament from Jan. 2 to 8. Feb. 10 to 12 will be the Whale Quest at Kapalua. From April 13 to 16, the Ritz-Carlton will host the Kapalua Celebration of the Arts. From May 5 to 7 is the Kapalua Jr. Vet/Sr. Tennis Championships, while from May 6 to 8 the Hawaii Hall of Fame Pro-Am & Championship golf tourney will commence. June 23 to 25 will be the Kapalua Clambake Pro-Am Golf Tournament, and on June 19 to 23 and June 26 to 30 junior tennis tournaments will be held.

SANTA will arrive in rather unique style this year, via outrigger canoe on Waikiki Beach, Dec. 10, at 9:30 a.m. In front of the Outrigger Waikiki, the free Christmas event includes hula dancers on the beach to greet Santa, live piano music in the upper lobby of the hotel, and picture-taking with Santa for children. From Dec. 12 to 16 at 10 a.m., guests at the Outrigger Reef can learn to make Hawaiian tree ornaments. On Dec. 19 at 6 p.m., the Honolulu Boys choir will give a free performance at the Outrigger Waikiki.

WORLDHOTELS, an independent hotel distributor, announced a Hawaii Town & Country package, offering 10% commission. The package includes two-night minimum stays at either the Waikiki Parc Hotel on Oahu or the Beach Village at Molokai Ranch, daily breakfast for two, a free upgrade to the best room available at time of check-in and free parking. Travelers also receive a bonus of 1,500 miles from United, American, Northwest or Delta. Rates begin at $215 per night at the Waikiki Parc and $185 per night at the Molokai Ranch.
