THE HAWAII
SUPERFERRY IS BACK ... WELL, ALMOST. Hawaiis Governor
Linda Lingle reported last week that Hawaii Superferry would resume
service between Oahu and Kauai on a limited schedule beginning
Sept. 26. State officials said they had developed a security plan
that will permit Hawaii Superferry, Alakai to safely enter and
depart Kauais Nawiliwili Harbor where protestors and the vessel
previously clashed. At press time, Mauis Circuit Court had not
ruled on the temporary restraining order issue, filed against the
company by environmental groups, which bans service between Oahu
and Maui. The TRO remained in effect through at least Sept. 14.
NORTHWEST
AIRLINES has cancelled its seasonal Alaska-Hawaii route,
citing the need to use its planes on other routes. The service had
been scheduled to run from December 2007 through May 2008.
Northwest said it would provide booked passengers with alternative
flight options.
HULIHEE
PALACE, in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island, will close in
mid-October for one year while repairs are made due to damage
caused by the October 2006 earthquake to the 170-year-old site and
visitor attraction.
