THE AQUA PALMS HOTEL in downtown Waikiki has opened for business, nearly a year to the day that Aqua Hotels & Resorts took over management of the property from Aston Hotels. The property was extensively renovated, according to Aqua President and CEO Mike Paulin, who said that the entire building was gutted and reconstructed with a retro-Hawaiian motif. The hotel, located on Ala Moana Blvd., across the street from the Hilton Hawaiian Village, has 260 studios and one-bedroom suites, which range from $195 to $300 per night through Dec. 19. CENTEX DESTINATION PROPERTIES, an upscale developer, has announced the coming ground-breaking of the Beach Villas at Ko Olina -- two lagoon-front condominiums (eight and 15 stories) on Oahus west side. Two-bedroom villas will start at $1.8 million, and the initial planning calls for 247 villa units. On the Ko Olina Resort grounds, villa owners will have access to two pools, a spa, a fitness center and membership to the Ko Olina Sports Club, as well as priority access to the Ko Olina Golf Club and the Ko Olina Marina.

THE BLACKSTONE GROUP will combine recently acquired Wyndham International properties with seven additional resorts around the U.S. and form LXR Luxury Resorts. One of the hotels is the Park Shore Waikiki on Oahu.

FUNJET VACATIONS is offering a bevy of fall packages to Hawaiis islands, which include Oahu packages to the Hilton Hawaiian Village with a fifth free night, room upgrade and a $50 dining credit. At the Sheraton Moana Surfrider, travelers will receive a fourth night free and a $75 dining credit. On Kauai, Funjet partnered with Outrigger to offer the first night free, a Big Kahuna Fun Pack and $50 in resort credit at the Kiahuna Plantation.
