Travel Weekly's Home-based Agent E-letter: April 9, 2007

TRAVEL COUNSELLORS, a host agency with 740 home-based agents, said industry veteran Peter Rasmussen is its new general manager. Rasmussen previously was an executive with Auto Europe. He takes over from former president Graeme Clarke, who is developing a tour operating program and a range of propriety products that will be available exclusively to Travel Counsellors. The agency operates in the U.S. and the U.K.

THE TRAVEL INSTITUTE added benefits to its certified travel associate program. CTA candidates can now participate in free online reviews of the eight core courses as well as a test preparation session with an institute facilitator. Additionally, candidates now have access to a special section of the Travel Institute discussion board where they can ask questions and share ideas. After earning the CTA designation, graduates will receive a $100 credit toward either the CTC or CTIE course. More details are at www.thetravelinstitute.com.

MARC MANCINI, a well-known industry educator, has agreed to again serve as a consultant to Cruise and Travel University, a division of Cruise and Travel Agents, said Charlie Dubinsky, president of the 3,200-member organization. "For two years now, Dr. Mancini has played an important role in helping to shape our agent training programs," Dubinsky explained. "We're pleased that this valuable relationship will now continue. We feel strongly that our offerings should maintain academic rigor yet still be fun. That's precisely what Dr. Mancini brings to us." Mancini will oversee curriculum development, evaluate testing processes and advise Cruise and Travel Agents on its many instructional initiatives. For more information or to make reservations for Cruise University, contact Cruise and Travel Agents at (954) 491-2269 or visit www.cruiseagentonly.com.
