Travel Weekly's Home-based Agent E-letter: January 23, 2006

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The Home-Based Success Series, a string of traveling educational seminars, rolled out its schedule. The program is a partnership of Network of Entrepreneurs Selling Travel (Nest), National Association of Commissioned Travel Agents (Nacta), Globus, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. Cost to participate is $20 and registration must be made by Feb. 3. The four-hour events are designed to provide "practical, step-by-step tips and insights on how to build a successful group business."

DATES AND LOCATIONS are: Feb. 6, Portland, Ore.; Feb. 7, Seattle; Feb. 8, Pasadena, Calif.; Feb. 9, St. Louis; and Feb. 10, Kansas City, Mo. All home-based agency owners, staff travel agents, and outside agents, regardless of their affiliation with any consortium or association, are invited to attend. Speakers will include Stuart Cohen, senior vice president of Nest, and Joanie Ogg, president of Nacta and Travelsellers.com.

SPECIALTY GLOBAL INSURANCE SERVICES, based in Kansas City, Mo., is getting ready to offer errors and omissions insurance products for agents, including one designed for home-based retailers. The program Travel Agent Protect provides $1 million in liability coverage for at-homes and small retailers. Premiums will be in the $350 to $500 range for home-based agents. Specialty said the product would be sold and serviced on the Web, and the launch date will occur as soon as the firm's Web site is ready, which should be in about 60 days.

THE HOST AGENCY JOYSTAR, headquartered in Aliso Viejo, Calif., launched a consumer Web site for cruise bookings, www.joystarcruises.com. "The site is loaded with all of the important information consumers need when planning their cruise vacation," said CEO William Alverson, including a section for first-time cruisers. Most of the major cruise lines are represented on the site, he noted.
