Travel Weekly's Las Vegas E-letter: Dec. 11, 2007

LAS VEGAS goes all out for New Year's Eve, and this year is no exception. A 20-minute fireworks display, synchronized to music, will blast from the rooftops at MGM Grand, Planet Hollywood, the Flamingo, the Venetian, Treasure Island, Circus Circus and Stratosphere at midnight. Jet Nightclub at the Mirage will hold a James Bond-themed party; guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite Bond character. Studio 54 at MGM Grand presents its 10th Annual New Years Eve Gala. And celebrity-hosted parties abound. Kevin Federline will host a bash at Tangerine Lounge & Nightclub at Treasure Island; Paris and Nicky Hilton will ring in the New Year at the new LAX Nightclub at the Luxor; Pamela Anderson hosts a party at Pure Nightclub in Caesars Palace.

PERFORMANCES around town on New Year's Eve include Earth, Wind & Fire, which hosts the celebration at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino. The Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas presents live performances from the Doobie Brothers and the Bangles; Kanye West rings in the New Year with a performance at the Palms Casino Resort; Tony Orlando performs at the Cannery Casino & Hotel; Cheap Trick plays the Four Queens Hotel and Casino; 3 Doors Down rings in the new year at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino; B.B. King performs at Buffalo Bill's Resort and Casino; the Goo Goo Dolls play the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay; and the Original Family Stone kicks off 2008 at the Orleans Hotel & Casino.

REVELERS looking for a unique way to end 2007 might try the Zero-G Experience offered by the Zero Gravity Corp. on Dec. 30 and 31. Guests experience weightlessness aboard flights above the Las Vegas Strip. For more information, visit www.gozerog.com. Meanwhile, the Rio Hotel & Casino will attempt to break two world records on New Year's Eve: Freestyle Motocross rider Robbie Maddison will attempt to jump his motorcycle the length of a football field, and movie stunt driver Rhys Millen will attempt the first-ever backflip of an off-road racing truck. Tickets are available by calling (702) 777-7776 or visiting www.newyearnolimits.com.

THREE NEW NIGHTCLUBS will take advantage of the New Year's Eve revelry to host their grand openings. The Bank, at the Bellagio, will open its doors on New Years Eve. Prive opens on New Year's Eve at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Rapper and music mogul Jay-Z will launch his 40/40 Club at the Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino. Celebrities and athletes expected to attend the 40/40 opening are Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds, Derek Jeter, Magic Johnson, Martha Stewart and Oprah Winfrey.
