Travel Weekly's Las Vegas E-letter: June 10, 2008

THE 'CASH IN ON VEGAS' incentive through the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is giving agents the chance to win cash gift cards this summer. Through June 30, agents who sell a minimum of five air/land packages to Las Vegas through one of ten participating wholesale partners for travel during June, July or August will qualify for the chance to win cash gift cards valued at $100, $250 and $500. The top seller from each wholesale partner will win $1,000. Entries are based on the number of room nights booked, so the more nights booked the more chances to win; winners will be selected after all travel has been completed. Participating wholesale travel partners are Southwest Airlines Vacations, United Vacations, Funjet Vacations, US Airways Vacations, GoGo Vacations, American Airlines Vacations, Certified Vacations, Travel Impressions, Alaska Airlines Vacations and Trip Tailor. Visit individual wholesaler websites for more information.

THE OWNER of the Hooters Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, a company called 155 East Tropicana, said that the sale of the property has been terminated. The prospective buyer, Hedwigs Las Vegas Top Tier, failed to make a required $500,000 payment by June 6, which automatically terminated the deal, 155 East Tropicana said. Hedwigs had planned to scrap the Hooters theme and redevelop the property into a boutique hotel.

THE CIRQUE DU SOLEIL show "Love" at the Mirage has announced a special "Tapis Rouge" (Red Carpet) promotion to begin June 26. Billed as "an exclusive virtual behind-the-scenes psychedelic experience" to the Beatles music-themed show, the $295 VIP package includes a show ticket (best seats in the house), access to a VIP will-call line at the "Love" box office, a customized gift bag, a collectible Tapis Rouge lanyard good for complimentary access to the Mirage's Revolution Lounge for an entire week, escorted access into the theatre, a VIP line at concessions and an exclusive reception before the show at the Revolution Lounge. For more information, call (866) 236-5652.

ALSO AT THE MIRAGE, entertainer Terry Fator signed a five-year, $100 million contract to headline at the property starting in February; he will replace longtime headliner Danny Gans when Gans moves to Steve Wynn's new Encore property. Fator, a ventriloquist, singer and celebrity impressionist, was a virtual unknown less than two years ago; in 2007, he competed in NBC's "America's Got Talent" reality show, where he won first place and a $1 million prize. He currently performs at the Las Vegas Hilton.
