THE NUMBER
OF AAA Five Diamond Award-winning hotels in Las Vegas has
doubled from two to four with the announcement that the Skylofts at
the MGM Grand and Wynn Las Vegas joined veteran winners Bellagio
and Four Seasons Las Vegas as properties that have attained Five
Diamond status for 2007. (The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Las Vegas in
nearby Henderson also received the Five Diamond distinction.) In
addition, Las Vegas can lay claim to four Five Diamond-rated
restaurants: Alex in Wynn Las Vegas, Joel Robuchon at The Mansion
in the MGM Grand and Le Cirque and Picasso, both in the Bellagio.
MGM
MIRAGE entered into an agreement to sell Primm Valley
Resorts, which includes Buffalo Bill's, Primm Valley and Whiskey
Pete's hotel-casinos, to Herbst Gaming, Inc., for $400 million. The
deal is expected to be finalized early next year. MGM Mirage
acquired the properties, located about 40 miles south of Las Vegas,
in March 1999 as part of its acquisition of Primadonna Resorts,
Inc. The Primm Valley Golf Club in California is not part of the
transaction and will continue to be owned and operated by MGM
Mirage.

CAN WAX
FIGURES get cold feet? In the Nov. 14 Las Vegas E-letter,
we wrote about a celebrity wedding that wasn't. The plan at Madame
Tussauds Las Vegas was to unveil a wax statue of Angelina Jolie in
a marriage altar setting next to the wax Brad Pitt. But according
to a press release from Madame Tussauds Las Vegas, Pitt's people
got wind of the plans, and the Hollywood folks contacted the
attraction and expressed disappointment at the impending event. Not
wanting to offend anyone, Madame Tussauds called off the wax
wedding but took the wraps off the likeness of Jolie
anyway.
