MANDARIN ORIENTAL HOTEL GROUP will manage a 400-room, luxury hotel that will be located in Project CityCenter, a multibillion-dollar urban development planned by MGM Mirage. The Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas, which will offer 310 guest rooms, 90 suites, seven dining outlets, 40,000 square feet of meetings and function space and a 30,000-square-foot spa, is expected to open in late 2009 as part of the projects first phase. The hotel will be built in a multi-towered, 37-story building that will feature an entrance on the Strip as well as a glass-enclosed sky bridge that will connect the property with the rest of the development.

AOL PARTNERED WITH VEGAS.COM to launch AOL Vegas, an interactive travel guide that offers a mix of free casino games, hotel and casino reviews and event and airline tickets. In addition, Total Vegas Television, a Las Vegas-themed content service provider founded by Robin Leach (Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous), will provide weekly video segments. AOL Vegas also will feature Leachs personal blog, Luxe Life.

FIFTEEN MONTHS AFTER its debut, the Las Vegas Monorail has carried its 10 millionth passenger. Monorail officials marked the occasion by presenting the passenger, Paul Savoia, a visitor from St. Catharines, Ontario, with a lifetime monorail pass, a two-night stay at the Sahara Hotel, a golf shirt from the MGM Grand hotel and two tickets each to Barry Manilows show at the Las Vegas Hilton, Legends in Concert at the Stratosphere and the Auto Collection at the Imperial Palace.

LAKE LAS VEGAS RESORT in Henderson will mark the Nov. 18 opening of MonteLago Villages floating ice rink with an evening of festivities beginning at 6 p.m. The Helen Joy Choir will perform before an ice skating show scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and tree-lighting ceremony at 7:15 p.m. Santa Claus and his elves also will be on hand to greet spectators and pose for photos. The 40-foot-by-70-foot rink then will be open for business, with an all-day pass costing $12 per child and $15 per adult. All proceeds from ice-skating tickets on Nov. 18 will be donated to the March of Dimes with a matching contribution from Lake Las Vegas Resort. BEGINNING DEC. 18, U.K. comedian Dame Edna will appear for a 16-show engagement in the Luxor Theater. Dame Edna: A Dame in the Desert will be performed at 8 p.m. Dec. 18 and 19, 21 to 23, 26 and 28; 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Dec. 24, 25, 29 and 30; and 10:30 p.m. Dec. 31.
